Romance: An idea lost upon Indian Race.

The idea of romance, the knight in shining armour, the beautiful princess and the evil minister. Does this exotic story feel like it can fit in the terrain of Hindustan. Can an Indian be part of such a dangerous adventure? I am inclined to think No. This great country of ours may has history of over three thousand years and cultures so varied you cant imagine, but it doesnt have the particular flame imperative for the birth of Romance. I may even suggest, that may be we Indians are incapable of understanding the concept of Romance.
For the cynics and die hard patriots I think I wil need some more proofs so here they are:
There is no, not a single piece of Indian literature that I have come across that mentions Romance. The closest that Indian literature ever came to Romance was probably when Sharat Chandra wrote but he never actually talked about love. He talked the stubborn boy or the woman trapped by social codes. Second mythology, that again hardly touches the Romantic angle. Ramayan may be a Rescue of Dame captured by evil king but it was never really touched the concept of Glory, Love or adventure. It was how a king and a perfect man was supposed to act. Same applies for our national liberation movement that was one of the most mechanical revolution in the history of the world. The 1857 was in accordance to a few kings who were pissed off because their kingdom was snatched (who we later glorified by the way). And the later part was far more moral to be able to humor Romance. Same goes for the movie industry, only art form that is pursued on a mass level in India. Although, there is always a hero in Indian movies rescuing a damsel in distress, the whole procedure is performed so literally that the possiblity of Romance is automatially killed. Thus I can conclusively say that idea of Romance can never be perpetuated in this country, which explains alot of our history including why there was never a emperor/conquerer from this country, because we are incapable of seeing visions. Now, dont get me wrong. I am not saying we are unromantic, I am saying we are alien to the concept of Romance. So, we can neither be romantic nor unromantic. Same as we are not coward, we just dont know what courage is. We fight according to calculations and chances of our winnings, not for the glory of it. That may not make us visionaries or adventurers but it makes something totally different- A survivor and I am not here to judge, which is better.
Dont think about it....

Well well well.. I may not be able to furnish you with details of romantic epics but there are writers who have their works dedicated solely to effusive romance, in the Indian background that is.
