Cultural Invason: An Oxymoron.

"The profit mongering MNCs and Vulgur western concepts are destroying Indian heritage and culture worth thousands of years. This must be stopped." VHP and Shiv sena would love me if I said something like this. But I just cant force myself to believe that. I have used word Oxymoron over here and would like to explain why? Had carthage been just an empty land and Romans would have just come and settled there. Would you have still called it an "Invasion"?
Now I may point out here that when I talk about the India culturally at siege I am not talking I am not talking about Kashi or Pondicherri. I am talking about the globalised and commercial centres of the nation, which McDonalds would consider for its first outlet or where Pink Floyd would perform.
If we look back the history of these cities we find out that since they were the centres they were always under attack from invaders and conquerers. We know that any group of people living together for a long time tends to develop a culture unconciously. Now Indians must have developed an underlying culture in these cities with the chaotic political stability around 800-1000 AD. This culture must have been based rigidly on Hindu religion, caste system and gold. Just about now Arabic invaders are hording on the borders, raiding this fragile culture unsystematically but frequently. Then Mughals start growing their Empire. They bring their own culture to replace the existent one with tools like Islam and Jazia tax. Next development occurs when Britishers hop on the band wagon trying to be what they inevitably are- British. This gives birth to a new breed- Indian Brits. These people were rich and powerful, for obvious reasons. Rest looked upto them and wanted to join the club. The old, sophisticated Mughal culture confined itself at the helms of Lucknow and Hyedrabad. Two new sects develop at the centres, Hindu and Muslim anti of each other, Partly because of British doing and partly to fill the void. Next comes Independence. Brits walk away taking all the Indian whites with them except for Nehru and Tata. This develops a cultural vaccum that is yet to be filled. Hence, no stable history, thus no long lasting culture, thus no invasion. Dont think about it....
